Location: Nairobi, Kenya It is with deep sorrow and heartfelt sympathy that Prof. Dr. Parin Somani extends her profound condolences on the passing of Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, the former Prime Minister *of the Republic of Kenya, who passed away in India on 15th October 2025 at the age of 80.
Prof. Dr. Somani, who was present in India during her official visit at the time of Mr. Odinga’s passing, expressed her heartfelt grief upon receiving the devastating news. She described Mr. Odinga as a true son of Africa, a visionary leader, and the father of Kenyan democracy, whose influence reached far beyond political boundaries.
“The world has lost a statesman of rare courage and conviction. Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga was not just a political figure; he was the moral compass of Kenya — a man whose leadership, compassion, and resilience inspired millions across the world. His passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the heart of Africa and the world,” said Prof. Dr. Somani.
Upon her arrival in Nairobi, Kenya on 16th October 2025, Prof. Dr. Somani witnessed the outpouring of national grief as communities across the country mourned deeply. She observed how people from all walks of life — young and old, rural and urban — gathered in unity to honor the legacy of their beloved leader.
“Everywhere in Nairobi today, I could feel the pain and sorrow of a nation in mourning. The streets, the homes, and the hearts of the people are filled with tears and prayers. The Kenyan community stands united in grief, and they will continue to mourn until the late Prime Minister is laid to rest in Bondo, Siaya County. Yet, even after the state funeral, Kenya will continue to remember him for generations — for Raila Amolo Odinga was not only a political leader, but the very soul of Kenyan democracy,” said Dr. Somani.
Raila Amolo Odinga, a five-time presidential candidate, was a towering figure in Kenya’s history and one of Africa’s most respected voices for democracy, human rights, and social justice. His lifelong dedication to political reform, inclusion, and national unity made him a symbol of hope and perseverance.

“Mr. Odinga’s life teaches us that true leadership is not about position, but about purpose. He fought tirelessly for fairness, equality, and dignity — principles that continue to guide the Kenyan people today. His legacy of integrity and courage will forever serve as a beacon of inspiration for Africa and the world,” Dr. Somani added.
Reflecting on her global humanitarian work, Prof. Dr. Somani emphasized how her mission of empowerment through education, leadership, and compassion resonates deeply with Mr. Odinga’s vision.
Our paths were guided by the same belief — that service to humanity is the highest calling. His vision for a united, just, and educated Kenya mirrors my own commitment to creating a world built on understanding, empathy, and empowerment,” she said.
