The International Folk Dance Festival – “Culture Connects” 2023, organized by the Charu Castle Foundation, stood out as a vibrant celebration of global cultural harmony. Held from October 18th to 21st, 2023, in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, the festival brought together diverse traditions and performances from across the world. Its prestige was further elevated through the support of UNESCO New Delhi, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture (Government of India), U.P. Tourism, and the CIOFF India Section.
Under the leadership of Chairman Kapur Vir Bhan, the foundation welcomed delegates, cultural groups, and performers from nine countries, alongside a variety of Indian folk dance troupes. This year’s event was particularly significant as it coincided with the 20th Anniversary of the UNESCO ICH Convention, aligning closely with UNESCO’s commitment to safeguarding intangible cultural heritage and fostering cross-cultural understanding.
In a special video message, Mr. Tim Curtis, Secretary of the ICH at UNESCO, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the organizers, U.P. Tourism Office, and all participants, emphasizing the powerful role of such festivals in building a culturally inclusive society.
A highlight of the festival was an exhibition of over 100 captivating photographs portraying the global diversity of folk dance traditions, collected from around the world.
The festival was graced by messages from esteemed dignitaries including Hon. MP Dr. Mahesh Sharma, MLA Sh. Pankaj Singh, Sh. Mukesh Kumar Meshram (IAS), Principal Secretary, U.P. Tourism – Culture, Mr. Tim Curtis, H.E. the Ambassador of Romania, H.E. the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan, and others—each reinforcing the significance of cultural exchange and unity.
Distinguished guests, including Justice R.B. Mishra (Retd. Acting Chief Justice of H.P. High Court), Justice Sunil Singh, H.E. Hon’ Ambassador of Romania, H.E. Hon’ Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan, official staff of Kyrgyzstan, Sh. Baldev Raj Sharma (Former Minister Uttar Pradesh), Cultural Attaché and staff members of the Indonesia Embassy, officials from Noida Authority, Officials from U.P.Tourism along with numerous educationists, artists, media persons, police personnel, and students from various schools and colleges, graced the festival with their presence.

The festival, organized by the Charu Castle Foundation, showcased a spectacular array of traditional dances, music, and costumes, fostering a spirit of unity and celebration.
Polish Folk Song and Dance Ensemble: A 12-member delegation from Poland graced the festival, presenting a mesmerizing display of their region’s best dances. The ensemble not only participated actively but also engaged in cultural exchanges with other groups, sharing the richness of Polish music and dance. Additionally, the delegation explored the cultural heritage of Delhi and Agra, including a visit to the iconic Taj Mahal.
Bulgarian Delegation: A prestigious 10-member delegation from Bulgaria, with a history of international accolades, captivated the audience with their unique style and dances. Their performances were met with applause and admiration from all quarters.
Romanian, Folk Ensemble: A 14-member delegation from Babeș – Bolyai University in Cluj Napoca, Romania, showcased their exceptional dances and live music, leaving the audience spellbound. The Hon’ Ambassador of Romania expressed gratitude for the invitation and commended the efforts of the Charu Castle Foundation in promoting global cultural connections.
Group from Indonesia: An 18-member group from Indonesia’s Island showcased tribal dances, using props and musical instruments to create a mesmerizing performance. The Indonesian Embassy officials praised the group’s contribution to the festival and commended the organizers for their commitment to cultural exchange.
Ensemble from Uzbekistan: A 10-member delegation from Uzbekistan wowed the audience with their enchanting music and dance. The traditional costumes and vibrant performances were widely appreciated throughout the festival.
Folk Dance Group from Srilanka: A 13-member delegation from Sri Lanka brought a touch of their diverse dance forms and costumes to the festival, adding to the cultural mosaic.
Group from Kyrgyzstan: A 7-member delegation from Kyrgyzstan showcased energetic dances and impeccable choreography, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of the audience.
Folk Dance Group from Thailand: Thailand’s VRU Folk Dance Group added charm to the festival with golden costumes and captivating movements. Their music resonated with the audience, creating an unforgettable experience.
Ritual Dance and Songs Group from Korea: A powerful 12-member delegation from Korea enthralled the festival with dynamic drum performances and unique art forms, connecting the entire event with their rhythmic beats.
Apart from International Folk Dances Indian Folk Dances like Raas from Uttar Pradesh, Manipuri Folk Dance from Manipur , Lavani from Maharastra, Gondhal from Maharastra, Jhuma Rampa – Chau from West Bengal , Giddha from Punjab , Tribal dances from Chatisgarh ,Kumauni Folk Dance from Uttarakhand, Rajasthani Folk Dance , Dandia from Gujarat, Sambalpuri from Orissa and others dances were presented by groups.
