Dr. Jain, who holds a PhD in Jainology from Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad, is celebrated not just for his business acumen, but for his deep-rooted commitment to Jain values, non-violence, and ethical living. From a bright student to a bold entrepreneur, Dr. Jain’s academic foundation was laid at MDS University, Ajmer, where he completed his M.Com with first division. His career began in 2000 in Mumbai’s diamond market, but destiny had other plans. After working for a brief stint, he joined his father Shri Prakash Chand Jain in the marble trade. For eight years, father and son worked hand-in-hand, but tragedy struck in 2008 when Vijay lost his father unexpectedly. The business came to a halt, and so did a chapter of his life. But instead of breaking down, he rose with greater determination.
“I always wanted to do something creative, something beyond the conventional,” says Dr. Jain. This vision led to Shri Rajat Group, which soon carved a niche in the gold industry both in India and overseas, symbolizing his resilience and business foresight. With no godfather in the trade and starting from scratch, Dr. Vijay Jain built the Shri Rajat Group, which today enjoys a global reputation.
But business success wasn’t the end of the road. Inspired by the philosophical richness of Jainism and prompted by incidents like the Santhara case and the Jain community’s minority status debate, Vijay decided to pursue a Ph.D. in Jainology from Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad. His focus: Jain ethics, ahimsa (non-violence), and the religion’s intersection with ecology and modern science.
“This journey was not easy,” he recalls. “I worked tirelessly for four years, often sacrificing sleep and comfort, but the passion to contribute academically to my community kept me going.” He credits Guru Rupmuniji Maharaj and ISRO scientist Dr. Surendra Pokharna for mentoring and guiding him during this academic pursuit.
Today, he proudly uses the title Dr. Vijay Jain, not for prestige, but as a reminder of his dedication to preserving and promoting Jain philosophy. His thesis explored primary Jain texts, pilgrimage traditions, and the contemporary relevance of Jain ecological practices.
Beyond academia and business, Dr. Jain has also ventured into film production, proving that creativity knows no boundaries. His foray into media has inspired many young entrepreneurs to dream bigger and think differently.
Despite his success, humility defines his character. “Helping the needy gives me true peace,” he says. His philanthropic work focuses on empowering underprivileged women and children, especially in education and self-reliance. “I have experienced struggle. That’s why I understand pain. Now that I am in a position to help, I make sure I do.”
Dr. Jain considers his revered deity Shri Nakoda Bhairav Nath, his spiritual guru Rupmuniji Maharaj, and his late father Shri Prakash Chand Jain as the pillars of his success. He believes that the values instilled by his father, the guidance of his guru, and the blessings of his deity have given him the strength to overcome every challenge. In business, his role model is Shri Ratan Tata, whose simplicity, ethics, and vision continue to inspire him.
While his love for politics is well-known, he has no intentions of contesting elections. “Politics is a passion, not a profession,” he asserts.
