Food Distribution Drive in Kashi on Vijaya Dashami by Poet Sudip Chandra Halder Promotes Message of Compassion and Equality

The program was inaugurated by Dr. Babita Berberia, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law, Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

“In a truly just society, access to food and dignity must be universal—regardless of caste, class, or creed. On a day like Vijaya Dashami, such efforts help bridge the gaps that still persist,” Dr. Berberia remarked.

Halder, known for his socially engaged poetry and academic work, emphasized that acts of service are central to the spirit of any celebration.

“We cannot speak of ethics or spirituality while people around us go hungry. Feeding the hungry is not just charity—it is justice,” he said, echoing the words of Swami Vivekananda: “What use is religion if you cannot feed the hungry?”

He further added, “Serving others is also a form of worship. On this sacred day, our aim was not only to celebrate but also to share.”

The event witnessed active participation from volunteers and students of BHU, including Urbi Dubey, Srishti Yadav, Dipanjana Choudhury, Yashvardhan Shukla, Vyom Shukla, Satyam Raj Kashyap, Shibu Kalai, and Arvind Yadav, a constable from Lanka Police Station.

The initiative highlighted how youth-led, community-driven actions are increasingly redefining the way festivals are celebrated—with empathy, inclusion, and a focus on social justice.
