Over the years, Sandeep has trained and mentored countless rural and special children in the arts, bringing light into lives often overlooked. His students have gone on to achieve global recognition, with some even establishing themselves in creative professions abroad – a testament to his belief in the power of art to transform lives.
Sandeep’s own creative journey is decorated with accolades. Among his early recognitions was the FIP Photography Award (2006), followed by participation in the National Youth Festival the same year. His contributions have been acknowledged by various organizations including the Punjab Regiment, Ramgarh, and he was invited to lead workshops for special children at CCW Foundation, Janakpuri (2011).
His artworks have been exhibited multiple times at Art Life Gallery, and in 2015, he had the opportunity to do a magazine cover shoot for renowned BBC journalist and author Mark Tully. In one of the most memorable moments of his life, Sandeep was invited to a school under the canopy of Rashtrapati Bhavan, where he worked alongside eminent artist and Lalit Kala Akademi Chairman Shri Uttam Ji, guiding students in sculpture and painting.

In recent years, Sandeep’s recognition has grown both nationally and internationally. In 2023, he received awards from the Governor of Jharkhand for his artwork, and was honored by Youth for Jobs, Tata Steel Foundation with the Sabal Award, and UNESCO for being among the Top 50 Winners in a global photography competition.
In 2025, Sandeep’s talents reached the grand stage of the Purple Fest, organized by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where he represented the art and culture of Jharkhand through painting and photography. That same year, he was recognized at home with awards and blessings from MLA Shri Roshan Lal Choudhary and MP Shri Manish Jaiswal, as well as from Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar, who presented him with a certificate of inspiration.
One of Sandeep’s most prestigious opportunities came when his artwork was selected to be presented before dignitaries as part of an initiative connected to Ancient India and Nalanda University. Additionally, his work has been showcased at the Russian Embassy, marking an important international milestone in his career.
Most recently, Sandeep received the National Icon Award (2025) at the Prime Minister Museum in New Delhi, in a program jointly organized by the Tourism Department of Jammu & Kashmir, Ministry of Defence, and Bharat Yuva Welfare Association.
Through it all, Sandeep remains humble, deeply connected to his roots, and ever grateful to his parents. “Everything I do is in the name of my mother Shanti Devi and father Shyamdas Nayak. Their love and support made me believe that no disability can stop a determined spirit.”
Today, Sandeep continues to work as a freelance designer with various creative agencies, while dedicating his life to teaching art and photography to underprivileged children. His goal remains clear: to uplift others through creativity, to preserve and promote the art and culture of his village and state, and to inspire the nation with his resilience. Even he does this, like Sohari art, which is the identity of Jharkhand.
If the Jharkhand government and the Department of Art and Culture support them, then they can reach a new height through their creativity.
As India moves forward in embracing diversity and inclusive talent, artists like Sandeep Kumar Nayak stand as shining examples of what’s possible when creativity meets courage. His journey is not just a story of artistic excellence, but a powerful reminder that disability does not define destiny.
