In a landmark achievement for India–GCC relations, H.E. Zeenat Kureshi has made history as the first Indian woman to be appointed GCC–India Trade Commissioner under an international chamber of commerce. Her appointment marks a significant step forward in strengthening economic, cultural, and luxury diplomacy between India and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations.
Often described as a trailblazer, Zeenat Kureshi is pioneering the role of GCC Trade Commissioner in India’s luxury diplomacy sector. With a vision to bridge opportunities between the high-growth markets of the Gulf and the dynamic economy of India, she aims to create a strategic platform for business leaders, investors, and luxury brands from both regions.

The GCC countries – Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates – have long been important trade and investment partners for India. However, the sphere of luxury goods, premium services, and high-end brand collaborations has remained largely untapped. Through her new role, Zeenat Kureshi seeks to transform this landscape by fostering high-value partnerships, organizing exclusive business delegations, and facilitating cross-border trade agreements that cater to both economic and cultural growth.
Her appointment is also a testament to the evolving role of women in international trade diplomacy. Among the first Indian women to hold such a position under an international chamber, she stands as an inspiration for young professionals, especially women aspiring to enter the fields of trade, diplomacy, and luxury commerce.

Speaking on her vision, Zeenat Kureshi emphasizes the importance of blending diplomacy with economic opportunity. She believes that beyond trade figures, collaborations should focus on cultural exchange, innovation, and mutual respect for heritage. Under her leadership, the GCC–India diplomatic body is expected to play a pivotal role in bringing global luxury brands to India, while also creating new export opportunities for Indian luxury sectors, including jewellery, fashion, hospitality, and art.
Her journey reflects not only professional excellence but also a deep understanding of the economic and cultural nuances of both regions. In her role, she is set to lead strategic initiatives, host high-profile networking events, and open new avenues for bilateral cooperation in industries ranging from real estate to lifestyle and tourism.
As the only Indian woman currently representing a GCC–India diplomatic trade body, Zeenat Kureshi’s appointment is being celebrated as a historic moment in the landscape of international trade diplomacy. Her leadership is expected to redefine the future of luxury commerce between India and the Gulf, setting a new benchmark for cross-cultural economic collaboration.
