The programme was launched at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) during a major healthcare infrastructure event hosted by the National Health Mission (NHM), Assam, in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam.
During the event, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the new GMCH building and inaugurated the Mother & Child Hospital, underscoring the state government’s commitment to strengthening tertiary care infrastructure and reducing Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR).
Addressing the public, the Hon’ble Chief Minister stated that Assam is the first state in the country to adopt a statewide intrapartum central monitoring system, describing it as a first-of-its-kind initiative in India. He noted that such a comprehensive, centralised maternal and fetal monitoring facility is not available even in most private hospitals across the country. The Chief Minister emphasised that this technology-enabled monitoring will play a crucial role in enabling early detection and timely intervention during childbirth, thereby significantly contributing to the reduction of MMR and IMR. He further highlighted that the entire solution is Made in India, reflecting Assam’s leadership in leveraging indigenous technology to strengthen public healthcare delivery.
Janitri Technology Deployed Across Government Healthcare Facilities
Under the programme, Janitri has enabled the deployment of 82 advanced intrapartum monitoring devices across 41 government healthcare facilities, including medical colleges, civil hospitals, and district hospitals throughout Assam. The deployment marks one of the largest public-sector implementations of a centralised intrapartum monitoring system in the country using indigenous technology.
The Janitri-powered network is designed to support continuous monitoring during labour and delivery, strengthening clinical surveillance and enabling timely medical intervention across facilities with varying levels of care.
Centralised Oversight Enabled by Janitri’s Monitoring Platform
A key component of the initiative is Janitri’s Central Monitoring System, with six units established at the NHM Assam headquarters in Guwahati. The system allows clinicians and programme administrators to remotely monitor multiple patients in real time across hospitals, enabling coordinated decision-making and improved visibility into intrapartum care at the state level.
Health officials noted that the ability to centralise intrapartum monitoring through Janitri’s platform is expected to play a critical role in strengthening referral pathways and clinical response during high-risk deliveries.
Rapid Statewide Adoption Highlights System Readiness
On the day of the launch, 12 hospitals across Assam commenced CTG monitoring through Janitri’s centralized network, reflecting swift adoption of the technology within the public healthcare system.
Officials said the rapid operationalisation highlights Janitri’s readiness to support large-scale government health programmes and the growing reliance on homegrown medical technologies in public sector deployments.
Supporting Safer Deliveries Through Early Risk Identification
Medical experts emphasise that effective intrapartum monitoring is essential for the early identification of fetal distress conditions that can lead to serious complications if not detected in time. By enabling continuous surveillance and centralised oversight, Janitri’s system is expected to support safer deliveries and improve outcomes for mothers and newborns across Assam.
Janitri Showcased Among India’s Indigenous Healthcare Innovations
During the inauguration, Janitri’s fetal and maternal monitoring technology was showcased alongside other Made-in-India healthcare innovations, including an indigenous surgical robot and low-field MRI technology. The inclusion of Janitri’s solution among these innovations underscored its growing role in India’s public healthcare transformation.
A Scalable Model for Central and State Governments Across India
With this rollout, Assam becomes one of the few states in India to operationalise a statewide, centralised intrapartum monitoring network using indigenous technology. Public health experts believe the initiative offers a replicable model for other states and national healthcare missions seeking to strengthen maternal and child health outcomes through digital and centralised care delivery.
