Bhubaneswar, Odisha | 7th April 2026 In a significant step towards building an inclusive and empowered society, the Sunlit Odisha Autism Healing Mission (SOAHM) inaugurated its Vocational Training Program for neurodivergent youth at the Asha Centre for Wellness, Baramunda, Bhubaneswar.
The program was formally inaugurated by Rtn. Manoj Kumar Tripathi, District Governor of Rotary International District 3262. The event was graced by DG Elect Rtn. Anil Kumar Samal (IAS Rtd.) as the Guest of Honour, along with distinguished dignitaries, including PP Rtn. B. K. Sharma (Project Chair), Rtn. Sanjay Choudhary (President RCB), Rtn. Biswajit Patra (Secretary RCB).
A Step from Awareness to Action
SOAHM—an initiative of the Rotary Club of Bhubaneswar (RID 3262) in collaboration with the Better Matter Foundation (BMF) and —is designed to create an integrated ecosystem for screening, support, and skilling of individuals on the autism spectrum and other neurodivergent conditions.
The launch of this vocational program marks a crucial transition from awareness initiatives to structured pathways for independence and livelihood. It focuses on equipping neurodivergent teens and young adults with practical skills, confidence, and opportunities for meaningful participation in society.
Conceptualized and driven by Dr. Soumya Patnaik and Dr. Ananya Patnaik, the initiative reflects a long-term vision of creating sustainable, dignity-driven pathways for neurodivergent individuals.
Holistic Skill Development Framework
- The program offers a comprehensive, multi-zone training model tailored to diverse abilities.
- Creativity Intervention Zone
- T-shirt and Gift Printing Unit
- Basic Computer and Multimedia Training
- Micro-green Zone for eco-based livelihood skills
- Neuro-dance Zone for movement and confidence
Each zone is designed to integrate therapy with employability, ensuring that skill-building translates into real-life independence.
Bridging the Inclusion Gap
Despite increasing awareness, vocational opportunities for neurodivergent individuals remain limited in India. Families often face challenges in accessing structured programs that support long-term independence.
SOAHM addresses this gap through a scalable and replicable model that combines:

The vocational program is expected to benefit 30 young adults in its initial phase, with plans to expand across districts through strategic partnerships and community engagement.
