StudyinKorea.in Opens New Gateway for Indian Students Eyeing South Korean Universities

For decades, Indian students seeking an overseas degree have set their sights on the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. Yet just a short flight northeast, South Korea has been quietly transforming into a higher-education powerhouse—home to globally ranked universities, cutting-edge research hubs, and government-backed scholarship programmes that cover everything from tuition to monthly living stipends. In 2024 alone, the country hosted a record 208,962 international students and is on track to welcome 300,000 by 2027, according to South Korea’s Ministry of Education.

Despite this momentum, India remains an under-represented market: fewer than 1,400 Indian nationals enrolled in Korean universities in 2022, a fraction of the cohort heading westward for studies the same year.  The reasons are well-known to guidance counsellors but rarely addressed by mainstream study-abroad portals: a shortage of India-specific information on application timelines, limited awareness of scholarships such as the prestigious Global Korea Scholarship (GKS), and widespread uncertainty about language, housing, and visa procedures.
