Acclaimed filmmaker Vipin Agnihotri is all set to bring his latest cinematic offering, Nikita Roy, to the silver screen. As the buzz around the film intensifies, Agnihotri opened up about casting Sonakshi Sinha in the titular role and his own philosophy on handling the highs and lows of the film industry.
Talking about the decision to cast Sonakshi as the lead, Vipin shared, “The script came to me first, but you tell me — if you know Sonakshi Sinha and you know how good an actor she is, wouldn’t you cast her? Sonakshi has done an amazing job portraying Nikita Roy. Even as a woman, you’ll be happy to see that there’s no mansplaining going on with the female character, and she is holding her own completely — not just subscribing to gender stereotypes. I think Sonakshi did justice to all these aspects.”
Known for his grounded personality despite industry successes, Agnihotri also offered a candid take on the fleeting nature of fame in showbiz. “Success has ruined more people than failure,” he remarked, adding, “I neither shout from the rooftop when my films do well, nor do I sit in the dark and cry over my movie debacles. I have been brought up in a way that I treat success and failure in the same way.”
With Nikita Roy releasing tomorrow in theatres, fans and critics alike are eager to see this powerful female-led narrative unfold on the big screen. And if Agnihotri’s instincts and Sonakshi’s performance are anything to go by, Nikita Roy may just be a game-changer in Bollywood’s portrayal of strong, independent women.
