New Delhi [India], November 6: For Karishma Dagal, the founder of Doria, the idea of creating a fashion brand came from watching her mother’s simple yet graceful approach to design. Her mother loved selecting fabrics, combining colours, and getting outfits stitched by local tailors — not as a profession, but as something she genuinely enjoyed.

Karishma grew up observing that creative instinct. “She didn’t have formal training, but her sense of design was effortless,” Karishma recalls. “She could pick the right border, match the right shade, and the result always looked beautiful. Even the neighbourhood ladies would come to her for ideas.”

After graduating from IIT Delhi and FMS Delhi, Karishma moved into the world of business and strategy. Yet, the creative influence from home stayed with her. “I realised that what she was doing wasn’t just a hobby,” she says. “It was a form of art — something rooted in culture, tradition, and intuition.”

That realisation became the starting point of Doria — a homegrown, women-led brand based in Jaipur, where traditional crafts meet modern style. Karishma wanted to create a label that carried her mother’s sense of aesthetics forward — one that celebrates handcrafted Indian wear while preserving its authenticity.

Each Doria creation — whether it’s a Lehenga, a Co-ord Set, or a Saree — reflects that blend of heritage and modernity. The brand focuses on timeless silhouettes and wearable comfort rather than fast-changing trends. “We wanted to make pieces that you can wear, re-wear, and cherish,” Karishma says.

Her academic training helped her bring structure and strategy to her creative passion. “IIT and FMS taught me how to think,” she smiles. “My mother taught me how to feel. Doria is where both lessons come together.”

Behind every collection is a network of women artisans who hand-tie, dye, and stitch each piece using age-old Rajasthani techniques such as Block printing, Bandhej, and handwork. Many of them work from their homes or small community spaces, preserving skills that have been passed down for generations. “They remind me of my mother,” Karishma says. “Women who may not have studied design formally but have an incredible sense of beauty and proportion.”

When her mother first saw the Doria label, which read ‘Handcrafted with Heart,’ she smiled quietly — a proud and emotional expression. “That moment meant a lot,” Karishma remembers. “It felt like the dream had come full circle.”

Today, Doria stands as a tribute to that journey — a daughter transforming her mother’s creativity into a purposeful brand. From the intricate weaves of Sarees to the regal charm of Lehengas and the easy elegance of Indo-Western ensembles, every design carries a part of that story.

For Karishma, Doria is not just about clothes — it’s about emotion and continuity. “It’s about keeping her art alive,”she says, “and creating opportunities for other women like her to find recognition for their craft.”

And that’s what makes Doria special. It isn’t only a fashion brand — it’s a heartfelt story of heritage, women, and the love that turned one mother’s hobby into a timeless legacy.
